Two new cowpea varieties, Nhyira and Tona, which are rich in Iron and Calcium have also been developed by the CSIR for release to farmers.
It is expected that these new varieties of maize and cowpea will be used extensively to support the poultry industry in the country and the Public School Feeding Programme.
