The CSIR Food Research Institute (CSIR-FRI) has commercialized several post-harvest processing technologies, turning local staples into shelf-stable industrial products. Key outputs include high-quality cassava flour (HQCF) as a wheat flour substitute, packaged Instant Plantain/Yam Fufu Flour, composite flour mixes, fortified cereals, and commercial mushroom spawn production bags.
Through the Building and Road Research Institute (CSIR-BRRI), CSIR developed Pozzolana cement (made from local calcined clay), which reduces Portland cement usage by 25–30% and cuts overall construction costs by over 20%. CSIR-BRRI also conducts critical subgrade soil testing, pavement designs, and environmental impact assessments for major public highway and housing developments across Ghana.
