The Institute has a team of scientists made up of animal breeders, veterinary surgeons, parasitologists, entomologists, nutritionists, chemists and experts in farm management and livestock economics.
These experts are responsible for research and development programmes involving cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, grasscutters, poultry and pasture production.

The total number of staff is 295. This includes 27 research staff, 44 senior technical, Administrative and Accounts staff, 18 artisans, 78 junior staff, and 95 daily-rated staff.

The Institute is now situated at its permanent site at Katamanso along the Accra-Dodowa road but still has its laboratories for parasitology, microbiology and nutrition, a veterinary clinic, a feedmill and a library at Achimota .  It has field stations at Pokuase and Nyankpala.

CSIR hosts cassava stakeholders meeting
A two –day meeting attended by about 40 participants from CSIR institutes (FRI, FORIG, CRI), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), CSIR- FRI, CSIR-FORIG and , non-governmental organizations agencies, and cassava processing enterprises, presented stakeholders’ of the Cassava: Adding Value for Africa Project in Ghana (CAVA-Ghana) a chance to interact, evaluate and mark our the way forward for the project. This meeting was hosted by CSIR-FRI recently.
