  • Introduction of the current Newcastle disease vaccination (NDV) programme for poultry.
  • Prepared a tsetse fly distribution map to guide and enhance livestock production in Ghana. (Data are available on the distribution of tsetse flies in Ghana, including savanna areas potentially suitable for raising cattle.
  • Method of control and possible eradication of tsetse, including male sterilization technique using atomic radiation.
  • The Institute is centre for tsetsefly breeding to produce males for sterilization in the control of tsetse.
  • Developed traditional herbal preparations for combating intestinal worm parasites of livestock and for the control
  • Introduction into the country of appropriate formulations of wheatbran as a partial substitute feed for maize: up to 20% in broiler starter and grower diets and 50% in pig diets.
  • Evaluation of local grasses for pasture establishment in terms of dry matter. Grasses found most suitable include: Digitaria decumbens (Pangola grass), Panicum maximum (Guinea grass), Cynodon plectostachyus (Giant star grass), Andropogon gayanus (Gamba grass), Pennisetum purpureum (Elephant grass), successful trials with grass-legume combinations to produce higher herbage yields.
  • Assisted APD to establish milk collection from agropastoralists on Accra Plains.
  • Introduction of "Yeastlage" in broiler and layer diets.

CSIR hosts cassava stakeholders meeting
A two –day meeting attended by about 40 participants from CSIR institutes (FRI, FORIG, CRI), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), CSIR- FRI, CSIR-FORIG and , non-governmental organizations agencies, and cassava processing enterprises, presented stakeholders’ of the Cassava: Adding Value for Africa Project in Ghana (CAVA-Ghana) a chance to interact, evaluate and mark our the way forward for the project. This meeting was hosted by CSIR-FRI recently.
